Gandalf Sold Me Drugs
Intellectual heavyweights Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky discuss hobbit's essential criminal nature and how the war in Middle Earth is a "conflict primarily about pipe weed", on their unused audio commentary for "The Fellowship of the Ring." From the sporadically excellent, Dave Eggers helmed periodical McSweeney's.

Read this yesterday at work, part two also, very funny in an understated way. They managed to get the tone perfect. We should organize a reading, as we play Lord of the Rings muted in the background!
Bags being Chomsky! I'm afraid to say i didn't know who Zinn was, good ol' wikipedia came through though. Yeah, the tone is perfect, you actually start believing their idea of Gandalf as an evil druglord...
Totally, the aliases, the constant travelling, the background manipulations and of course his plentiful dissapearances!!! Does that make the Valar a crime family then?
Ditto on Zinn dude, still I'll happily portray Howie. What a merry time we'll have.
Also , for an old guy he can certainly kick ass when he needs to!
